California State Mining and Mineral Museum

The California State Mining and Mineral Museum is a 13,000 specimen mining and mineral collection owned by the State of California and moved to Mariposa County in 1983. The Department of Parks and Recreation, operating under the Resources Agency of the State of California manages the collection, currently housed in a 5,000 square foot facility at the Mariposa County Fairgrounds.

Construction of a new museum is planned for the intersection of Historic Gold Country Highway 49 and the only year 'round access road to Yosemite National Park, Highway 140 in the center of Mariposa. The Gloor Family Trust is donating 1.5 acres of land at this site adjacent to .3 acre occuped by Veterans of Foreign Wars, Keith M. Bertken Post 6042, Mariposa. The VFW will relocate to 9-plus acres acquired by the Fund across the street from the Mining and Mineral Museum's future location. The 9 Acres will be used for parking.
